In The News – Potpourri -by Leslie Johnson, Phoenix, AZ Saturday, November 08, 2003 There
is a new Common Sense article today. Thursday, November 06, 2003 I may throw up if I have to listen to one more political
operative drone on about how we are losing the peace in Iraq because we don’t
have a plan. It would be nice if the
script were even an original, but check this out. How many times will history show the
liberal left consistently wrong? The CBS drama of “The Reagan’s” will not air this month
in response to the outrage and flood of communications they have
received. Good job to all of us who
let our little voices be heard; collectively it was a roar that the sponsors
heard loud and clear. The Hollywood
crowd is screaming censorship on artistic expression. Haven’t heard anyone throw out McCarthy’s
name yet but I am sure some moron will.
They just don’t get the concept of cause and effect between angering
the consumer and the economic disaster that ensues. Of course, you have to first believe in accountability to
understand this. Biggest news yesterday was the “memo” from the Senate
Intelligence Committee that gives the play by play of how to leak classified
information at the most opportune time and pick through the information and
only leak what can be used for their political advantage. Someone needs to tell Terry McAuliffe to
rein these menaces in before the American public realizes what a threat to
national security they are and pull a CBS on them. In case they haven’t noticed this past week, they lost the only
two governorships up for grabs, after losing California’s last month. They might also want to note that since
2000, they no longer have the White House or the Senate. An ounce of intelligence might detect a
pattern here. Wednesday, November 05, 2003 Yesterday while President Vicente Fox was preparing to
land at the Phoenix airport, a shoot out was taking place on the highway
leading into Phoenix from southern Arizona.
Two vans carrying illegal aliens and their “coyotes” were the
targets. It appears that just as the
drug traffickers highjack each other’s payloads, so do the people traffickers. Here’s the link to the story
in the Phoenix paper this morning. Instead of the
proposed agenda of lobbying Governor Napolitano to accept the matricula card
as ID and asking for her support in the issuing of Arizona’s driver’s
licenses to illegals, perhaps his time would have been better spent at home
working on a plan to educate the citizens of his country on the dangers of
entering the US illegally. Between
the low lives that transport them or the vast, dangerous, and unforgiving
desert they cross while walking in, the trip can be very lethal. Those that possess that knowledge make an
informed choice but many of them don’t know it and are victims of misplaced
trust. It is up to the government of Mexico to stop encouraging
this illegal activity and educate its citizens to these dangers. It is up to our government to stop
politicizing this issue and take a very strong stand in favor of protecting it’s
own citizens both physically and economically. Our message to those who are not here legally is very
ambiguous because our politicians want their cake and eat it too. If you were on the other side of the
border and were told that the US is very serious about controlling illegal
immigration; but hey, if you make it there alive, you will have access to
work, healthcare, an education, a driver’s license, possibly even voting
rights…you might choose to make the trip also. Monday, November 3, 2003 Vicente Fox
will visit Arizona, New Mexico, and Texas this week to showcase the value of
migrant workers and push for acceptance of the Mexican issued matricula
consular as what I see as the first steps to amnesty at the state
level. Prior to September 11, 2001, a
migration accord seemed eminent but has since has been placed on the backed
burner and for a very good reason, homeland security. I guess if you can’t
make much headway in Washington, you go to the Border States and see if they
can help put the pressure on or bypass the President. Last time I checked, the Federal Government had
responsibility for managing immigration.
It seems that states can usurp the Feds by enacting laws that may
increase their voting base while putting the country as a whole at more
risk. The desperate move of Grey
Davis in California allowing illegal aliens to obtain driver’s licenses is a
prime example. You only need a
driver’s license to register to vote after all. If you listen to the politicians, you will be told we
need “guest” workers in this country to do the menial jobs the citizens of
this country won’t do and without them the service industry would
collapse. A few points to ponder: §
I don’t think of illegal aliens as “guests” just as I
wouldn’t consider someone who kicked in the door of my house to gain entry as
my guest. They may be in my house but
I seemed to have lacked a say in the matter. §
It is politically incorrect to refer to these
hardworking, taxpaying non-citizens as illegal aliens. The term illegal implies breaking the law
or engaging in criminal behavior. The
preferred term is undocumented workers.
(Undocumented is more palatable because it could just be a little
paperwork snafu that has victimized them leaving them undocumented.) A little snafu such as not filling out any
paperwork to begin with? §
The service industry would collapse is an interesting
justification. The translation here
is that the government supports businesses that are breaking the law. Silly me, I thought the government’s
purpose was to make and enforce laws and punish those that don’t. In response to pressure from all sides, some politicians
are currently working on a guest worker program that no doubt will be so
filled with bureaucratic bloat, holes and challenges that it will never be
implemented. I believe in the KISS
method of problem solving, Keep It Simple Stupid. Here’s a short and simple plan for beginning to increase homeland
security by making our borders less porous and providing a guest worker program. IF YOU ARE IN THIS COUNTRY ILLEGALLY §
You have ninety days to register, make application to be
a guest worker, and be granted a temporary work visa or you may leave this
country and return to your homeland no questions asked. o
In this first round, we won’t bother with background
checks prior to issuing your temporary work visa because quite frankly you
are already here, why bother. §
At the end of the ninety-day grace period, anyone found in
this country that is not a citizen of this country and remains undocumented
will be immediately deported after a short and sweet deportation
hearing. o
The hearing will consist of producing the required
documentation or be shipped out. o
If we have to deport you, you will be blacklisted and
will forfeit any chance to be eligible to apply for a work visa or for
residency in the future. §
You will be issued a work visa for a specific period of
time that allows you to be in this country.
These visas are renewable prior to expiration. Please make arrangements to exit the
country on or before the day of expiration.
Failure to do so will result in deportation and blacklisted against future
entry. §
Think of the guest worker program as taking a long
business trip and leave your family at home.
Work visas will only be granted to workers, not to the entire family.
Absence makes the heart grow fonder and is powerful incentive to return home
again. §
All government agencies will be responsible for
enforcement at the Federal, State, County, City and Local levels. §
Those wishing to respect our laws and immigrate here will
follow the normal channels that have been in place but disregarded for
years. This includes those seeking
political asylum also. There are an estimated 10 million illegal aliens in this
country right now. It’s time to take
this issue very seriously. |
