In The News – Straight from Iraq -by Leslie Johnson, Phoenix, AZ Friday, November 14, 2003 Another Iraqi blog
website is up and running with a fascinating summation of the
origins of Iraq and her people as well as a daily commentary on the current
events in Iraq. The web is such an
incredible tool for getting your messages out to the world. It gives a much different perspective than
the organized media. This site even
includes a link to Fox News. Way to
go! Thursday, November 13, 2003 Mohammed Odeh al-Rehaief, is the Iraqi lawyer that risked
his life and the lives of his family to go to US soldiers and tell them where
Jessica Lynch was being held. He has
written a book about this experience called “Because Each Life is Precious-Why
An Iraqi Man Came to Risk Everything for Pvt. Jessica Lynch.” Add this to your winter reading list; it
is available through Amazon.com. Although I have not read it yet, the
reviews have been positive. Mr.
Al-Rehaief, along with his wife and child are living here now having been
given political asylum. It didn’t
take him long to figure out capitalism!
Based on his example, I don’t think the Iraqi’s will have any
difficultly adjusting to a democracy. Wednesday, November 12, 2003 Yesterday was Veteran’s Day. A work day for most of us but I hope we all took a moment to
say thank you to all the Veterans of past wars and pray for the safety of our
future Veterans who continue the fight today. Benefits for the soldiers and their families are a disgrace
compared to what our government saw fit to lavish upon the families of 9/11
victims. The average payout to a 9/11
victim’s family is around 1.5 million; a soldier’s family will not get enough
to pay for a decent funeral. The USS
Intrepid is berthed in New York as a museum and memorial to soldiers who gave
their lives for their country. The
Intrepid Fallen Hero Fund is currently raising money for US and British soldiers
who have lost their lives in Iraq.
What a great way to say thank you to our fallen heroes. To donate, click the picture below.
Tuesday, November 11, 2003 Iraqi bloggers are springing up on the Internet and provide
a unique, uncensored look at the minds and hearts of these people. They are able to receive some news from
the outside world for the first time in decades and are watching the reaction
of the American people. “American
public opinion is a matter of life and death to us here”, please let them know that the American media does not reflect
the hearts and minds of the American people.
Here’s the link to read for yourself.
The show of support is critical in mobilizing the Iraqi people to help
our troops and here is another good site to follow. I saw the Iraqi lawyer who was
responsible for saving Jessica Lynch on TV last night. He was asked if Jessica has called him to
thank him and he made kind hearted and polite excuses for her having not done
so. PICK UP THE PHONE AND THANK THIS
MAN JESSICA, IT IS THE LEAST YOU CAN DO FOR SOMEONE WHO SAVED YOUR LIFE! Monday, November 10, 2003 Too tired to write before I am
off to work. Perhaps tomorrow. |
