In the News – Potpourri

If you are looking for a unique holiday gift for that special someone, give them Ann Coulter.  The best selling author has really hit the big time with a talking doll in her honor.  Congratulations Ann!

Anti-war rallies are scheduled for today on both of the leftist coasts and will occupy media coverage today totally disproportional to its merit.  The rally is sponsored by the usual suspects, ANSWER and others who are objecting to our “colonization” of Iraq.  ANSWER is a communist organization.  Need I say more?

In the News – Wal-Mart and Hollywood Terrorists

House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi thinks that the police and INS officials are terrorists because of their threat to the poor Wal-Mart workers who are just trying to feed their families in this article.  The comments were made while she was pandering down in Mexico, no doubt to her future constituency.  I hope her staff remembered to bring those driver’s license applications, so they can get registered in time to vote for her in the next election.  To hell with national security, this is an election year.

CBS has a movie about President Ronald Reagan in production that is stirring up much controversy and the lawyers are getting nervous.   It’s obvious that some rewriting of history via artistic license is going to go on here.  Regardless of what you thought of President Reagan, the American people will not tolerate kicking someone when they are down.  Let CBS know your thoughts on this subject.  At the bottom of the page, there is a link to a feedback form you can fill out and submit.

In the News – Common Sense Takes Over

The Florida Legislature passed Terri’s Bill to prevent the starvation and dehydration of vegetative patients when there is disagreement in the family and there is no living will to clarify the wishes of the patient.  Her feeding tube has been reinserted.  There will be more court appearances over this case.  We all have a right to die.  We exercise that right by executing a living will.  In the absence of a living will and when the family is in dispute, we should err on the side of caution.   We have a habit in this country of give them an inch; they’ll take a mile.  No extraordinary means of life support shouldn’t mean food and water unless explicitly stated in a living will.

The Congress has passed a third version of the ban on partial birth abortion.  This time the President will sign it.  More common sense being displayed here.  Most people didn’t understand this ghoulish medical procedure but once it was explained to them, they were very much against it.  The poll numbers I heard reported were that 80% of American’s support the ban.  I remember when abortion was made legal up until the six month when the fetus becomes viable.  I don’t recall hearing anything about extending that and was amazed to find out partial birth abortion existed.   Partially delivering a viable fetus feet first so you can suck its brains out and “deliver” it dead is incomprehensible to me and I never want to meet the sick bastard that thought that one up.

Since the American people and the Legislature seem to be on the road of common sense together, I’m sure the courts will screw it all up shortly.

In the News – Florida Legislature Passes Terri’s Law

The Florida House passed a bill giving the Governor the right to intervene in cases such as Terri Schiavo’s.  The Senate should take it up today.  Time is of the essence.  Here’s the link.

In the News -  More Foolishness

I had wondered what had been promised to the UN to get the 15-0 vote on the resolution for Iraq’s reconstruction.  According to this author, the purse strings.  In typical New York Times fashion, I read seven paragraphs that were raising my blood pressure at the thought of sending in 20 billion hard earned dollars to be turned over to the UN and the World Bank.  When I got to paragraph eight, I find out that American money will still be under our control.  Fine.  Just remember to have a couple of cups of coffee before picking up the NYT and don’t skim read a column.

Terri Schiavo continues without food and water.  Found this article over the weekend, my understanding of the situation gets better.  A medical trust fund in excess of a million dollars could be powerful incentive to pull the plug.  She is currently being denied communion so she won’t choke to death.  Do I have this straight?  Choking to death would kill her immediately but they want to make sure that a long death of dehydration and malnutrition wins out while denying her the right to practice her religion.  Governor Jeb Bush was looking into whether or not there was anything he could do to help out her parents.  We need to hear from you soon Jeb, it’s been five days.
